What's in an Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror?

One of the fascinating aspects of the auto-dimming rear view mirror is the technology that is put inside the feature. If you are fascinated enough by the feature, then you are going to want to know more about its safety and the inner parts that make it possible for it to do its job.

The auto-dimming mirror has two sensors. They are either photodetectors, that are based on cameras, or photodiode. These collaborate with the microprocessor in order to determine when there is glare. Once the glare gets closer to a level that could be blinding to the driver, then they work together to dim the mirror so that the driver can continue seeing even with the bright light glaring.

While it was a rare feature in vehicles when it first came out, it has become a common feature of vehicles such as those you would find at our BMW sales lot.
